Ashram School Children
June 15, 2004
This morning I received more blessings, through the children and from Arati. These children, ages 12-13 are so special. There is a light in them that is
unmistakable. I began the music class with all of us holding hands in offering to the Divine. We chanted AUM. Usually I have to begin as the children wait for the lead. Today I received the inspiration (from the experience with the Meditation Choir) to ask the children to go deeply within and to chant AUM on any note they wished for when we offer our song to the Divine there are no wrong notes.
We closed our eyes and suddenly I was filled with the beauty of what I heard, a harmony so sweet, so beautiful rising upwards. There was only consonance, one collective body in offering. So powerful was the moment that it shall never leave me.
During class the children listened to basses and baritones and some were so totally concentrated that I motioned to Krishna to see their faces and the quiet intensity with which they listened.
On coming down the stairs I sat for a few minutes with Arati. She told me that she sat each week and listened to the class for she could feel the music entering her very cells. She also told me that during the time when Mother would distribute groundnuts each day classical music would be played and Mother would tell them the plane from which a piece of music or a passage came, and that is how she learned Western music.
